Build Your Shed
If you have decided that you want to take on a shed building project then you might be asking yourself where to start. Well, as you may have guessed, the first thing you should do is research. I have written pretty extensively on the subject and just put together a free e-book that contains a lot of great information about planning and building your shed. You can download it on the right sidebar. Once you have done some reading you will find that the biggest thing you will have to decide is what kind of design to use. By this I mean that you can’t just start nailing boards together without a plan. Who knows what you will end up with! Buying or designing a set of plans is the best thing to do.
My ebook goes into detail about planning for different kinds of sheds, but for this post I will just say that it is always a good idea to spend some time thinking of what needs you want to meet with your new shed. Once you know what you want your shed to do for you, you will be able to best determine what exactly you want to build. So get your design together and then generate a materials list. This will help you when getting materials estimates. Materials estimates? Yes, you should shop around; don’t just go to Lowe’s and buy. You will find most supply yards will try to beat each other’s price. This will save you money. Some yards will even deliver for free, another time and money saver.
Once you have your materials pick a location, follow your plans and build. Many sheds can be built in such a way that no substantial foundation is needed. Often you can just use blocks to level the shed and call it good. Generally speaking, the shed shouldn’t get up and walk off. Be sure that the exposed lumber is treated. Also, it is a good idea even on level ground to keep the shed raised just a bit. This will prevent rot from ground moisture.
Take pictures of your project and send them my way with your war stories. I will put them on the site as I am sure others will enjoy hearing about your experience. Here is a link to an online package that has some good plans, materials lists and step by step instructions. Also don’t forget to download my ebook. I think you will find it helpful. Most of all, remember to have fun!
Build A Shed House
Build a shed house is kind of a strange name for a blog, here’s why. If you want a garden shed or maybe a storage shed for your backyard you might go down to your local box store to buy one. When you get there and look at the sheds you will see that they are built more like a cardboard boxes than a house. If I am going to spend my money on a product I want it to be quality, I want it to last.
While there are exceptions to every rule generally speaking houses are built to last. I am in the construction business so when I see someone with one of these sheds it breaks my heart. I know that for less than they spent on their storage shed they could have built their own and built it well. I have made it my mission here at www.buildashedhouse.com to alert people to the fact that there is a better way! In the coming weeks and months I will be providing information that will help anyone interested in building a shed build it like a house, to last.
